I am exploring new directions in my ceramics by using glazes to create texture, expanding on the carved and impressed surfaces I’ve developed over the past 25 years. My current focus is on crawling glazes, which form random crackle patterns, and cratering glazes, which produce dramatic volcanic textures through the reaction of silicon carbide during firing. I aim for “uniform randomness” in both approaches, seeking balanced, consistent surfaces while welcoming the natural variations that occur. These glazing techniques allow me to build on my signature style while opening new horizons for artistic expression.
